Big Society? What about the Sustainable Communities Act!

Trish Marchant says: The idea of community engagement ticks a lot of boxes for me. As someone who belongs to a couple of active local groups the notion of lots of local residents getting engaged in community decision making really appeals, as long as it isn’t a replacement for paid employment and doesn’t ultimately lead to bureaucratic obstacles laid down by councils to prevent involvement.

But hold on a minute, that’s exactly the purpose of the Sustainable Communities Act isn’t it? Legislation that gained cross party support! Except that Medway Council refused to adopt the SCA as they believe (incorrectly) that they already do all that nonsense within their various departments.

It will be interesting to hear their excuses for not doing it now their party is running the country!
