Ocean Acidification: The Other CO2 Problem

The largely unknown problem of ocean acidification poses a fundamental challenge to life in the seas and the health of the entire planet.

To help raise awareness of ocean acidification, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) has produced a short film, Acid Test, narrated by Sigourney Weaver.  Please take 20 minutes to watch the film – your eyes will be opened to this overlooked problem and show that energy efficiency and moving from fossil fuels to renewable energy is part of the solution.

Scientific experts on the problem,  some of whom appear in the film, believe it is possible to cut back on global warming pollution, improve the overall health and durability of our oceans and prevent serious harm to our world but only if action is taken quickly and decisively.

As Sigourney Weaver states towards the end of the film, “There is much we don’t know about how carbon pollution will affect our world.  Still, we have to choose: we can go on as we have forcing future generations to survive, somehow, without the vast ocean resources that have sustained us or we can move beyond fossil fuels, securing a future that works for all of us, for all living things.  What will we choose?”
