No Surprise as the Greens Lead on Global Justice

Trish Marchant Green Party Candidate for Gillingham and Rainham

Apparently WDM (The World Development Movement) has analysed and scored the main parties’ policies on international development – and has rated the Green Party higher than any other party . The Greens,  scored an impressive 8 out of 10, and come out on top on issues such as trade justice, international aid and IMF reform, ahead of the Liberal Democrats (6 out of 10), Labour (5 out of 10) and the poorly scoring Conservatives, who lag behind on a score of just 3 out of 10.  So what were the party slogans again? A future fair for all from Labour, as long as you aren’t expecting them to help poorer countries tackle the West’s legacy of climate change. And the Tories “time for change” includes changes to the way aid is spent. Anti-poverty campaigners have been shocked by the Conservative party’s admission that part of the aid budget under a Tory government could be used for British military operations in developing countries. Of course as a Green party candidate I am not surprised at the result and judging by the pledge requests from local residents poverty, climate change,  and the robin hood tax are the talk of the town. Its a pity they aren’t as high on the media’s agenda.
